How many times have you heard something weird about charging your phone and thought, “E be like say na true o”? Let’s bust these myths once and for all, your battery (and pocket) will thank you later.   1. “You must always charge your phone to 100%.”   Truth: No, you don’t.   Modern smartphones use Lithium-ion batteries, and these don’t need to hit 100% to be “happy.” In fact, keeping your phone between 20% to 80% can actually help the battery last longer. Charging to 100% every single time can cause wear and tear faster over time. Na lie wey we dey believe since Nokia torchlight days. 2. “Don’t use your phone while charging, it will explode!”   Truth: Unless you’re using a fake charger, relax fam.   Using your phone while charging is safe, as long as you’re using original chargers and cables (not the N800 knockoffs from some parts of Computer Village). The explosion stories usually involve bad batteries or cheap power accessories.   Lesson: If it’s not certified, don’t plug it in.     3. “Overcharging spoils your battery.”   Truth: Modern phones are smarter than you think.   Once your phone hits 100%, it automatically stops charging. It doesn’t just keep sipping electricity till it bursts. However, leaving it plugged in overnight every single night can still cause long-term heat damage, especially if the phone is under your pillow.   4. “Charging your phone with a fast charger will spoil it.”   Truth: Only if your phone doesn’t support fast charging.   If your phone is fast-charge compatible, then it’s perfectly fine to use a fast charger. Phones today come with smart chips that regulate how much current flows into the device.
